Because the walls of a vinyl pool are constructed with steel panel sections, the sizes of pools available are set by the kits that can be built with these sections. The most common pool sizes, the overall width and length of the body of the pool are 16' by 32', 18' by 36', and 20' by 40'.

Another three to five sizes are typically available for each shape. the 16' by 32' is a benchmark size as it is the smallest available size that allows for a full 8' deep area and regular diving board.
